Montpellier Spring

NGR 76152 45899
Site Number: C31
By Bruce Osborne and Cora Weaver (C) 2012
Area 3. North Malvern Springs and Wells
Malvern Hills, England

Location: Below the former St James' mansion
Description: A roadside spring and streamlet.

Head down Croft Bank, which is to the right of the former St James' mansion. Turn left into Montpellier Road. At the far end, where the road turns, you will hear on your left the sound of running water. Water flows beneath a wall and is channelled into a nearby streamlet running under the road where it reappears in a deep chasm. Very little is known about this near-roadside feature. It is possibly the outfall for the water from the various water facilities in St James' House and grounds.

The map alongside is a small section of our more comprehensive map of the area. For the complete map together with a description and history of this site see "Celebrated Springs of the Malvern Hills" (2012).
