Link Station Trough

NGR 78230 47568
Site Number: C10
By Bruce Osborne and Cora Weaver (C) 2012
Area 2. Malvern Link Springs and Wells
Malvern Hills, England

Location: in the station yard of Malvern Link Station.
Description: an animal trough now removed.

In May 1880 Mr H Griffith, station master at Malvern Link, appealed for subscribers to erect a drinking trough for cattle at the station. It was opened at a very short ceremony on 15th July by local animal lover Miss Jessie Lakin.[1] Unfortunately almost a year later the trough had not been paid for and an appeal went out for more subscriptions.[2] The trough was removed just over 100 years after its erection and two pillars against the station yard wall are all that remain to testify as to its former whereabouts.

For more detail on Malvern Link Station see Railway Station Fountain where the water supplies to all Malvern's stations are discussed. The picture above shows the recess dressed for the 2018 annual Well Decorating.
